The more I pay attention to photography, the more I have come to realize the importance of lighting.

The most beautiful lighting is present at the beginning of the day and the end of the day.

Of course, the setting plays a huge part, but the lighting makes the photo special. I love to think that the most valuable-artistic time of the day, for me, is when I embark on a new day and then in the evening as I contemplate the day gone-by. Of course, what happens in-between matters, but those early mornings and late afternoon-moments, are times when I can or probably should reflect the most.

In the morning, the day is new and unfolding. Then, as the day is near closing, I can settle into accomplishment and rest.

Not all days are reflective and, not all days fall into that perfect category. Every day doesn't offer perfect-lighting either. However, if we take a few moments, we might find we have much to reflect upon and approach the day in a new, fresh light with openness and gratitude.

Afternoon Lighting

All the above pictures were taken on November 14th in the late afternoon- as the day ends. What’s interesting is the last picture was taken after the third picture. The third picture was looking at the setting sun, but the last picture shows the beautiful reflection of the sun. It looks lighter out, but it actually was about 20-30 minutes later. The last picture was looking towards the east, over the Atlantic Ocean.

Morning Lighting

These last few pictures were taken on the morning of November 15, 2020. Ken and I celebrated our 33rd wedding anniversary. We had a super-mini-staycation at Blockade Runner on Wrightsville Beach. It was a lovely, little getaway.
