Sweet Child of Mine
happy birthday my sweet baby girl elisabeth
She's got a smile it seems to me
Reminds me of childhood memories
Where everything
Was as fresh as the bright blue sky
Now and then when I see her face
She takes me away to that special place
And if I'd stare too long
I'd probably break down and cry
Oh, oh, oh
Sweet child o' mine
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Sweet love of mine
She's got eyes of the bluest skies
As if they thought of rain
I hate to look into those eyes
And see an ounce of pain
Her hair reminds me of a warm safe place
Where as a child I'd hide
And pray for the thunder
And the rain
To quietly pass me by
Oh, oh, oh
Sweet child o' mine
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Sweet love of mine
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Sweet child o' mine
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Sweet love of mine
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Sweet child o' mine
Oh yeah yeah
Oh oh sweet love of mine
Where do we go?
Where do we go now?
Where do we go?
Oh, where do we go now?
No, no, no, no, no, no
Sweet child
Sweet child of mine
Please take a few moments and listen to this version of Sweet Child of Mine, by Taken By Trees. Quite different than the original Guns and Roses version. Over the years, I have found a song for my other children, and I spent many moments searching for one to land on me in a special way and match my feeling and carry the right sentiment for Elisabeth. This song has often filled that space, but I never was sure if it was right. But, I think it does suit her and me.
Then, in-between the search, two more songs landed squarely on me, and I found another song that is perfect for this stage of life. It was written by Neil Young for his daughter Amber Jean when she was in her final year of college. How appropriate! Elisabeth is in her final year fo college too. So for today, this is my second song for you.
When your summer days come tumbling down
And you find yourself alone
Then you can come back and be with me
Just close your eyes and I'll be there
Listen to the sound
Of this old heart beating for you
Yes I'd miss you
But I never want to hold you down
You might say I'm here for you
When the winter comes to your new home
And snowflakes are falling down
Then you can come back and be with me
Just close your eyes and I'll be there
Listen to the sound
Of this old heart beating for you
Yes I'd miss you
But I never want to hold you down
You might say I'm here for you
In the spring, protective arms surrounding you
In the fall, we let you go your way
Happiness I know will always find you
And when it does, I hope that it will stay
Yes I miss you
But I never want to hold you down
You might say I'm here for you
Yes I miss you
But I never want to hold you down
You might say I'm here for you
I'll always be here for you
Elisabeth is my youngest child. I too am the youngest so I can relate to that position in a family line-up. Being the youngest can be difficult. You entered the world later than your siblings, obviously, and much of what was done in the years prior to your experience, may not be repeated. So, sometimes, or even oftentimes, you miss out on events that happened before you. It requires purposefulness to try to avoid those pitfalls and feelings of “missed-out”, an area that I may seem apparent to Elisabeth. However, Elisabeth has risen far above any oversight on my part. She is beautiful in so many ways. May she always know the depth of my love for her and how amazing she is. So here we have 3 songs for you my third child. Maybe it took awhile- but now it’s just right!
She is a Sweet Child of Mine, that is for sure and may she know I’m always Here For You and that she always stay Forever Young.
