Annie's Song

Annie's Song

You fill up my senses
Like a night in a forest
Like the mountains in springtime
Like a walk in the rain
Like a storm in the desert
Like a sleepy blue ocean
You fill up my senses
Come fill me again

Come, let me love you
Let me give my life to you
Let me drown in your laughter
Let me die in your arms
Let me lay down beside you
Let me always be with you
Come, let me love you
Come love me again

Let me give my life to you
Come, let me love you
Come love me again

You fill up my senses
Like a night in a forest
Like the mountains in springtime
Like a walk in the rain
Like a storm in the desert
Like a sleepy blue ocean
You fill up my senses
Come fill me again

This is probably my most favorite song. I can listen to it and it brings tears to my eyes. For those who don’t know me, I am a crier. I can cry when looking at a sunset, a child or listening to a song. I was married 31 years ago at the age of 22 (almost 23). I remember planning my wedding and trying to make “mature” decisions knowing that I was kind of young. Music was always a significant part of my life, and when it came to our first-dance song, we were stuck. Sure there were some great Billy Joel songs we loved but I didn’t want the “pop” song that was overplayed on the radio. I wanted something less predictable and more meaningful. The song I wanted was Annie’s Song. John Denver had a significant following, but he wasn’t very popular with my crowd even though his music was part of me. We ended up picking the song Evergreen sung by Barbara Streisand, which when I look back, it probably was a poor choice. The lyrics are beautiful, but it really wasn’t our song. There are so many songs that we relate to, but for me, there’s still no better love song than Annie’s Song.

So Happy Anniversary my Love.  31 years that started with a glance.
