marriage
It often starts with a glance or maybe an intentional chance.
Followed by an encounter that takes a different stance.
Friendship is formed as connections are made,
until it's clear that love is here to stay.
The days go by.
A date is set.
And then comes the moment that they are wed.
It's heartfelt bliss.
It's celebrated joy
from this day forward…onward they go.
I do was said to love, honor and cherish
which sounds so easy as they start to flourish.
The commitment was declared as the years commence
and life began, and not by chance.
Houses were purchased, children were born
and life as one knew it no longer was in form.
The unknown became familiar.
The newness wore off
but love always conquered
even in a storm.
Struggles come, they always do.
Sometimes they tear
Sometimes they glue.
How can it be that love can last so long?
When life brings uncertainty and challenges forlorn?
If the heart is the center, and love is allowed to grow,
endurance sets the pace and the journey starts to explode.
Day after day you take a step.
Some with confidence, some with regret.
Sometimes you feel like a bird in flight
struggling to fly with all your might.
Other times you're a flower in full bloom,
yearning to thrive without any gloom.
The vows declared so long ago, to love, honor and cherish-
so the story goes.
As the days turn to years as the years came from days.
Life has a new meaning as one begins to age.
Sixty years later, memories still abound,
as deep-rooted love continues to live on.
Love lives in each one.
It lives in couples created,
by a union of marriage- so understated.
Today we celebrate marriage, a life so designed
of two unique people completely entwined.
Happy 60th Wedding Anniversary, Mom and Dad
