Reflection
Reflection:
1) the throwing back by a body or surface of light, heat, or sound without absorbing it
2) serious thought or consideration
The ocean often allows me to reflect.
Reflect on where I’ve been and where I’m going.
It’s a few days before Thanksgiving, and I’m spending it on the beach with my family. It is quite an incredible gift to be able to not only gather, but participate and connect with extended family- especially on the beach. It’s not often that we’re all together, and under the same roof for more than a few hours. It truly is a treat.
Something I’m discovering, as I reflect, is the awareness of time. This awareness is nudging at my head-space and prompting me to share life-experiences with those I love. This may mean, finding a way to create new opportunities and memories by thinking outside the box.
My current home is over 600 miles, and several states away from where I was raised. Getting together with family up north comes with a few challenges, especially now that my kids are young adults with jobs of their own. Everything is more complicated and nothing can stay the same as it once was because there are so many moving parts. However, this year the need to gather became much more critical and the idea of a beach house Thanksgiving came to fruition.
I’m getting back to writing this post, and now it is Thanksgiving morning. I’m writing on my iPad, and it’s not really cooperating. It won’t let me edit what I previously wrote.
The sun has now shown its full face and is rising above the clouds that once obstructed its full view. The sun didn’t fail to reveal its presence, despite the shroud, with the reflection of light and color peeking behind the clouds. Now it is shining in all its glory! Such a beautiful thing to watch the day start to form and turn into something unknown.
Around the country, I can’t say the world since this is an American holiday, people are getting their turkey’s prepped and in the oven. The turkey is the centerpiece of the meal, but the gathering of family really is the main course.
This Thanksgiving will be adorned not with a pretty table setting of fine china and silverware but with good food, a awe-inspiring view and even better company.
So today, we gather together and ask the Lords blessing. On us, on our family, our friends, our country and our world. Gratitude can do wonders. Happy Thanksgiving Day, 2019!
